I prefer the MATE desktop environment to Unity. Is it possible to add the MATE desktop environment and keep all the installed software and settings? If so how do I go about adding MATE?
I'm sorry if I sound silly but I am new to Linux and am trying to wean myself off Windows. I would like to be able to use Ubuntu Game Pack as my preferred desktop but really want the comfort and familiarity that I find MATE brings.
I want to install and play Fallout 4 on this distribution.

Open a terminal using CRTL + ALT + t

$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-mate-dev/xenial-mate
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install ubuntu-mate-core
